Vanuatu
Vanuatu has spent decades sounding the alarm on climate injustice. Now, with a landmark ICJ advisory opinion secured, the world must answer: when climate harm is a legal responsibility, who will be held to account?
Climate Blueprint: Vanuatu, the third and most consequential film in the series, tells the story of a landmark legal milestone in climate action: the International Court of Justice's advisory opinion on states' climate obligations — a process initiated by Vanuatu and driven by a coalition of small island states and youth activists. For years, Vanuatu has worked to reshape international law, from recognizing ecocide as a crime to advocating for the rights of nature. This film captures that arc, from early advocacy to the historic ruling, and asks what comes next.
